Product Description & Reviews

Cinematic Metaphor: Experience - Affectivity - Temporality (Cinepoetics)
By De Gruyter
ean: 9783110579598, isbn: 3110579596,
Metaphors in audiovisual media receive increasing attention from film and communication studies as well as from linguistics and multimodal metaphor research. The specific media character of film, and thus of cinematic metaphor, remains, however, largely ignored. Audiovisual images are all too frequently understood as iconic representations and material carriers of information. Cinematic Metaphor proposes an alternative: starting from film images as affective experience of movement-images, it

By Springer
mpn: bibliography, ean: 9783540627357, isbn: 3540627359,
Progress in computer animation has gained such a speed that, before long, computer-generated human faces and figures on screen will be indistinguishable from those of real humans. The potential both for scripted films and real-time interaction with users is enormous. However, in order to cope with this potential, these faces and figures must be guided by autonomous personality agents. This carefully arranged volume presents the state of the art in research and development in making synthetic

Rubble, Ruins, and Romanticism: Visual Style, Narration, and Identity in German Post-War Cinema (Film Studies)
By Transcript-Verlag
mpn: 33 b/w & 11 colour illus, ean: 9783837621839, isbn: 3837621839,
Traditional criticism on German post-war cinema tends to define rubble films as simplistic texts of low artistic quality which serve to reaffirm the spectator's image of him or herself as ''a good German'' during ''bad times.'' Yet this study asserts that some rubble films are actually informed by a type of visual and narrative Romantic discourse which aims at provoking a critical discussion on German national identity and its reconstruction in the aftermath of the Third Reich. Considering the
